Architerra creates a waterfront retreat
The landscape of this Mediterranean style manor home in Lake Forest became a labor of love and charity through the combined efforts of the Women and Infants’ Society of Lake Forest and Architerra. We were selected to landscape a portion of the property called Blue Spruce Island. This majestic 7 acre parcel overlooks a 2-1/2 acre pond on the grounds of this prestigious estate. It was our goal to create a colorful landscape with year 'round interest that would invite people to take time to enjoy the beauty and serenity of this waterside haven.
We trimmed and shaped the 6 mature spruces that defined the site. For instant color we planted a large area of multi-colored pansies, accented by single-colored pockets in hues of pink, purple and white. Shade-loving perennials were added to provide interest throughout the summer months. The floral area was finished with premium hardwood mulch in a deep brown to compliment this colorful display. Between the annuals we shaped a wood chip path leading to a bench for viewing the pond and surrounding area. A beautifully handcrafted stone bench provided intimate, waterfront seating for two. Large boulders were artfully placed to add drama. Annual pots with flowering bulbs in peach and yellow added to the overall visual impact of the finished site. Our thanks to the Women and Infants’ Society of Lake Forest for allowing us the opportunity to participate in this challenging and rewarding project.
